Multimedia Classroom Technology
The following provides instructors with information about the technology available in shared multimedia classrooms on the St. John's campus, so you can make informed decisions about your instructional approaches.
This information is meant to be a guide, as not all technology is the same in each classroom. If you have any questions about the technology in these spaces, please contact our Classroom Support team.
If you are assigned to teach in a room that does not have the technology needed to meet an instructional approach, contact your academic room booking contact to inquire about the availability of a space that does.

Lecture capture
Lecture capture technology is available in a set number of rooms throughout the St. John's campus. Lecture capture records a small video image of the instructor, the instructor's voice and all information projected through the data projector.
Links to recordings are automatically uploaded to the appropriate Brightspace course site. View a list of lecture capture classrooms and get more information about this service.
Standard classroom technology*
Memorial works to ensure each shared classroom is set up with a minimum standard of audio-visual technology to support instruction on campus. This includes:
Computer | Visual | Audio | Peripherals | Use Cases | Additional Info |
Desktop PC and cabling for user supplied laptops | Ceiling mounted data projector to project from computers or peripheral devices | Sound system to amplify devices connected to the system | Document camera DVD/Blu-ray player | On-campus teaching | Larger rooms may have a microphone to allow the instructor's voice to be amplified |
For more information on the technology in these shared classrooms please watch this video prepared by our Classroom Support team.
*For multimedia rooms that are owned by academic departments, the design or generation of technology may vary.
Fully integrated spaces
These are spaces that have permanent technology that allows for the recording of synchronous sessions and can be used to facilitate instruction where the instructor is in the room and some students participate remotely.
In majority of these rooms, the camera is positioned to capture the instructor at the front of the room. The instructor must use the desktop PC to leverage the room's camera and microphone for this purpose.
Room | Camera | Microphone | Use Cases | Additional Info |
A1043 | Instructor-facing | 1 wireless lapel* | Recording or synchronous sessions via Online Rooms or Webex | Best for local instructor and remote audience |
A1046 | Instructor-facing | 1 wireless lapel* | Recording or synchronous sessions via Online Rooms or Webex | Best for local instructor and remote audience |

Minor temporary equipment additions - Winter 2022
As supply permitted, the following classrooms have minor equipment temporarily added to allow for recording of synchronous sessions, as well as limited functionality for remote participation by students (i.e. no camera, but audio can be captured in the room OR has a camera but instructor must remain at the podium to be heard). The instructor must use the desktop PC to leverage the room's camera and microphone for this purpose.
