What is it?

Slack is a live chat messenger used by many businesses and universities for communication purposes. Slack offers many conventional instant messaging features, including persistent chat rooms (channels) organized by topic, private groups, and direct messaging.

What is its purpose?

The primary purpose is to have a live chat (text, audio, or video) with multiple or individual students at a time.

How do I use it?

Users have to Sign Up using their Google Account, Apple ID, or their work/institutional email.

Slack can also be accessed through Mobile Apps:

Android users can access the tool through  Google Play Store and iOS users can access Slack through App Store.

Why would I use it?

1. Slack contains a wide range of features such as chat rooms, audio calls, video calls, and data storage.

2. Slack also offers an additional file transfer function that students can use to submit their assignment/examination files if they experience difficulties using a similar feature in Brightspace.

3. This application is authorized by Google. Therefore, it is easy for students to log in.

Usage considerations

1. It requires a paid subscription. 2. The video calls are limited to 15 people.
