Canadian Virtual University discontinued

After careful review and thought, the Board of Directors of the Canadian Virtual University-Université Virtuelle Canadienne (CVU-UVC) have decided the time has come to end the consortium.

Memorial University has been a part of the consortium for over 15 years.

CVU-UVC was formed in 2000, at a time when e-learning at public institutions was in its early years. The primary focus of CVU-UVC was to showcase and promote the online educational opportunities available for students across Canada. This was done by creating a central hub of the programs and course offerings available for students, as well as through the way the member universities worked together to facilitate the ease of transfer of credits for students.

CVU-UVC can be proud of its history and for leading the way in Canada in promoting the benefits of and access to online learning. Today, the e-learning world is different. There is a plethora of choices available for students, with more and more institutions offering online and distance education. The work of the CVU-UVC, in regards to its original purpose, has been accomplished.

While CVU-UVC has officially come to an end, students currently enrolled in CVU-UVC member courses can continue their coursework as normal. We remain committed to providing quality educational programming and responding to the needs of learners, as well as providing leadership in e-learning initiatives and online offerings.
