Research Assistant Training Program
All hired student research assistants (RAs) must complete a 20-hour paid course designed to enhance their understanding of SoTL. The training will take place through a hybrid learning environment and will include both asynchronous (i.e., online learning) and synchronous learning activities (i.e., group activities hosted through WebEx or in-person when possible).
All RAs will also complete the TCPS 2: CORE training as a part of their 20-hour RA training program if they have not previously done so. Please note that the RA training program is mandatory for all hired RAs.
TESI Dissemination Fund
TESI project leads are highly encouraged to disseminate their work beyond Memorial’s learning community. To support external dissemination, TESI participants that have met all the program’s expectations are eligible to apply for additional funding to assist with external dissemination. Two options for funding are available: (1) conference funding and (2) Open Access journal funding. Each team is only permitted to apply for one of the two options.
Conference funding
Each TESI team is eligible to apply for a one-time conference grant to present their project at a national or international conference. A maximum of $1,500 per project is available to cover expenses (e.g., conference registration, travel, accommodations, meals). Grants are awarded on the following basis:
- On a first-come, first-served basis throughout each fiscal year (April to March). Once all funding has been allocated, a notice will be posted on the TESI webpage noting there is no remaining funding for the year. Only current full-time employed educators may apply for conference funding.
- The project's Final Reflection and Summary Report has been submitted. Exceptions may be approved on a case-by-case basis.
- A letter of conference acceptance must be included with the application. Applicants must be presenting their TESI project to receive funding. Please note that submissions still under review will not be considered for funding.
- The project lead must approve all conference funding applications.
How to apply
Complete the Conference Grant Request Form and email it to the program facilitator with the subject header: TESI Conference Grant Application.
Approval process
CITL will review and approve all submitted conference funding requests on a first-come, first served basis. Once approved, CITL will arrange cash advances when appropriate.
Open Access Journal funding
Each TESI team is eligible to apply for a one-time Open Access journal grant to publish their work in an Open Access journal. A maximum of $2,000 per project is available. The grant will cover Author Processing Charges (also called author’s fees or page fees) for articles that have been accepted to “gold” open access journals that meet the following criteria:
- Journal content is peer-reviewed.
- The journal is listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (doaj.org) and openly adheres to rigorous editorial and publication ethics (for example: COPE Core Practices and the COPE/DOAJ/OASPA/WAME Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing).
- Journal does not charge subscription fees for any of its content and all articles are immediately available online at no cost to the reader.
- Authors retain copyright over their work. (i.e., the journal uses Creative Commons licensing or similar.)
