Winter Welcome 2023 Contest

Official Contest Rules

Important: Please read these official rules and regulations ("Official Rules") before entering the Centre for Innovation in Teaching and Learning ("CITL") 2023 contest "Winter Welcome 2023 Contest" (the "Contest"). By entering the contest, each participant represents that he or she satisfies all of the eligibility requirements below and agrees to be bound unconditionally by these official rules and all decisions of CITL (the "Contest Sponsor").

Open to current students enrolled with Memorial University

1. How to enter

The Contest begins on or about January 4th, 2023. To participate, participants must have Internet access, be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student with Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), have a valid MUN email address, and a Memorial University student number. To enter the contest participants must visit citl.mun.ca/support, login with their valid MUN login, choose “Winter Welcome 2023” from the request type drop down menu, enter the phrase “Almost 600 courses available online” and click "Save." Limit of one (1) entry per student, per contest period.

2. Contest period

The overall Contest commences on or about 9:00 a.m. Newfoundland Time (“NT”) on January 4th, 2023, and ends on or about 4:59 p.m. NT on January 18th, 2023 (the “Contest Period”), after which time no further entries will be accepted.

3. Eligibility

The contest is open to all undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled with Memorial University of Newfoundland (Including St. John’s Campus, Grenfell Campus, Harlow, Online, and Fisheries and Marine Institute), and who are not full time non-student employees, contractors, agents or representatives of Memorial University or its parent companies, their subsidiaries, affiliates, agencies, distribution companies, the Contest judge, or any person who is domiciled with any of the foregoing persons. The potential winner will be required to provide the Contest Sponsor with government issued identification for proof of identify and student number for confirmation of enrolment status.

4. Prizing

There is 1 prize available to be won per Contest Period. Each prize includes a $100 gift card for the Memorial University bookstore. Odds of winning a prize depend on the total number of participants during the relevant Contest Period.

5. Awarding of prizes

Upon contest close, entries will be reviewed and a winner will be selected at random on January 19th, 2023, and notified via their MUN email.

6. General

The prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and non-refundable, has no cash surrender value and must be accepted as awarded with no substitutions. The Contest Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to substitute the prize, or a portion thereof, with (a) prize(s) of equivalent or greater value for any reason. The decisions of the Contest Sponsor and/or the Administrator are final and each participant agrees to abide by all of the instructions and decisions of the Contest Sponsor and/or Administrator. In the event of any dispute regarding the interpretation of these Official Rules, the decision or interpretation of the Contest Sponsor and/or the Administrator shall prevail. No communication will be entered into except with selected participants.

All entries become the property of the Contest Sponsor. Any entry that is illegible, incomplete, altered, or contains false information, is invalid. Contest Sponsor is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction, including Internet or telephone network or broadcast transmission during the Contest Period.

7. Limitation of liability

The Released Parties shall not be liable for any damages caused or alleged to be caused by or resulting from: (i) any entry, prize or other correspondence or data that is lost, stolen, late, garbled, distorted, delayed, damaged or misdirected for any reason; (ii) any failure, interruption, technical malfunction or delay; (iii) any e-mail, text or other communication sent or received to or from the Contest Sponsor or any of its agents or designees, for any reason; (iv) any incorrect, untimely or inaccurate information, whether caused by the Sites, users or by equipment or programming errors associated with or utilized in the Contest; (v) any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of any entry or entries in the Contest; for problems with the function of any website or website feature, howsoever caused; (vi) the malfunction of, or damage caused to, any telephone network or lines, computer equipment, data, software, online systems, servers or access providers; (vii) any functionality lost due to not having cookies enabled; (viii) traffic congestion on the Internet; (ix) the security or privacy of information transmitted via computer networks; (x) breaches of privacy due to interference by third party computer "hackers" or for any damage caused to or incurred by any participant or any other person by reason of any such event or occurrence; or (xi) technical, hardware or software failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions including lost, misappropriated or corrupted entries, virus, worm or Trojan Horse damage or any other damage which may limit a participant's ability to participate in the Contest.

8. Errors

The Contest Sponsor is not responsible for typographical or other errors in the offer or administration of this Contest, including but not limited to errors in advertising, the Official Rules, the selection and announcement of winners, or the distribution of any prize.

9. Termination/modification

The Contest Sponsor reserves the right to terminate this Contest or change these Official Rules at any time, at its sole discretion without notice to participants.

10. Disqualifications

The Contest Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who is found (i) to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest; (ii) to be acting in violation of the Official Rules; or (iii) to be acting in an un-sportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person, or to post inappropriate or demeaning material on the web page. Caution: any attempt by an participant or any other individual to deliberately alter or damage any entry or undermine the legitimate operation of the contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, the sponsors reserves the right to disqualify such participant or individual and seek damages or any other remedy from any such participant or individual to the fullest extent permitted by law.

11. Subject to applicable laws

The Contest is subject to these complete Official Rules and all applicable federal, provincial and local laws and regulations. By participating in the Contest, you acknowledge that you have read the Official Rules and agree to abide by their terms and by the decisions of the Contest Sponsor, which are final and binding on all matters pertaining to the Contest. All federal, provincial and local laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited by law.

12. Privacy policy

CITL as a unit of Memorial University is a public body, which is subject to the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPP Act). The ATIPP Act requires public institutions to comply with rules relating to how and how much personal information is collected; how it is secured from unauthorized access, use and disclosure; and the use of people’s personal information.

MUN login is required for entry into the contest, but will not be displayed with entries and only used for internal processing.

All information requested by the Contest sponsor will be used solely for the administration and management of the program. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Memorial University Act (RSNL 1990 Chapter M-7) and is used for the purposes of entrant validation and administration of potential winner’s prize.
